The history of calendar can be traced back to prehistoric times, at least as old as the Neolithic. Before today’s Gregorian calendar was adopted, there were different kinds of methods to keep track for day and time in different countries.
“Twelve Thirty-one” is an experimental project to explore an original and unique way for day tracking in Chinese. Since Kwan has always been passionate about typography related creations, he decided to design a Chinese typographical system particularly for dates, which can also inherit the Chinese cultural, meanwhile, break through tradition.
Kwan customized the Zhaujinti font by Sammy Or and created this new set of Chinese typeface, which each day and month can be represented by just one Chinese character. Kwan made a poster calendar for it, and printed it with black and gold color on a Japanese paper. The timeless calendar can be reused endlessly as long as you have two marking tools to indicate the day and month.
